Electrolytic copper, also known as cathode copper, is a high-purity copper product produced through the process of electrolysis. It is a crucial material in the copper industry, widely used in various industrial applications due to its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as its good ductility and toughness.
The production of electrolytic copper involves an electrolytic refining process. In this process, impure copper (usually in the form of anode copper) is dissolved in an electrolyte solution, typically a mixture of sulfuric acid and copper sulfate. An electric current is then passed through the solution, causing copper ions to migrate to the cathode, where they receive electrons and deposit as pure copper.
